At first this seemed like an odd topic to build a game around, but after spending time with actual researchers and rangers working in the field to protect endangered animals, we came away inspired. Their incredible work led us down a path of discovery about the realities of human-animal conflicts and animal conservation. Rangers work in small teams, with limited resources, tracking animals and poachers that move in unpredictable patterns across gigantic spaces. That unique management challenge translated into interesting gameplay decisions, and mapped perfectly to the squad-building and large roster management RPGs we loved. We quickly realized we had something innovative and special on our hands and got to work.
Our solution to translating that research into a game was to blend a variety of game genres that each emulated an important aspect of protecting wildlife. We designed a Caretaker headquarters where you organize your hundreds of recruited characters into squads, deal with detained poachers, and upgrade your technology before heading out into the field. We created a real-time-with-pause map exploration system, where you deploy your squads to search for poacher activity. And we created a turn-based combat system to resolve meetings between your squads and poacher teams, giving you diplomatic options in addition to traditional JRPG-like abilities.

The first third of the game is spent exploring the factory and warehouses to find the necessary items that will get the lift to the basement up and running. Once in the basement the next act revolves entirely around trying to get the hell out of the basement, and the final act is get in the god damn van!

After dialogue with Doctor Amari, it seems that this kind of transfer could work by using a synth body. Doctor Amari tells the player that she has performed risky memory-wiping procedures on willing synths desperate to escape the Institute, and that those whose procedures have failed are now in a persistent vegetative state as a result, giving the opportunity for Curie to use one of these synths if their caretaker consents.
After waiting 24 hours, one will find either Glory or a generic caretaker with a female synth, designated G5-19, waiting with Curie and Doctor Amari in the basement of the Memory Den. Upon talking with Glory or the caretaker, the process will commence and Curie's mind will be transferred into the generation 3 synth body, where she experiences new and confusing human feelings, leaving her old Miss Nanny body empty and deactivated. Afterwards, talking to Curie (who is excited for the next step in her life) and Glory (who will either be sad but content or angry depending on prior dialogue choices) will complete the quest. If the generic caretaker is present rather than Glory, she does not need to be talked to.
I loved the stylization of the game! I appreciated how it let itself be a spinoff of "No Players Online" while still creating some unique and genuinely scary moments. I felt the plot was a little lacking, but with the short length of the game that is completely understandable.
